AlgaeRevive Showcased During Project Pitch Session at Sustainable Aquaculture Meeting in Constanța
On 29 October 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alina Soceanu from Ovidius University of Constanta, a partner institution in the AlgaeRevive initiative, participated in the 7th meeting of the Sustainable Aquaculture Technical Group under the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea. The meeting took place in Constanța, Romania, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the region.
AlgaeRevive in focus: algae-based solutions for Blue Growth
During the meeting, Prof. Soceanu presented the AlgaeRevive project, highlighting its contribution to sustainable aquaculture and environmental protection in the Black Sea region. Her contribution emphasized:
- algae-based approaches to improve water quality
- mitigation of harmful algal blooms
- monitoring methods for ecosystem health
- opportunities for sustainable Blue Growth in the Black Sea
Project pitch presentations: regional innovation for the Black Sea
A dedicated pitch session featured presentations of three regional projects, showcasing complementary approaches to Blue Growth and sustainability:
- Marian Paiu – Exorcising the Black Sea’s Silent Killers – BlackNETs
- Alina Soceanu – Harnessing Algae Power for Pollution Reduction and Blue Growth – AlgaeRevive
- Tzvetalina Genova – Interdisciplinary Solutions for Smart Sustainable Tourism and Services for Blue Growth in the Black Sea Basin – INTERSMARTS
This session highlighted how diverse, interdisciplinary initiatives—from environmental monitoring and algae-based solutions to smart tourism—can collectively support a resilient and sustainable Black Sea region.
Knowledge exchange and regional cooperation
The meeting provided a valuable platform for dialogue, allowing participants to exchange expertise, identify shared challenges, and explore innovation pathways for sustainable aquaculture development. Discussions underlined the importance of integrating scientific research, monitoring tools, and nature-based solutions into regional strategies.
Supporting the Blue Strategy vision
By presenting AlgaeRevive alongside other flagship regional projects, Ovidius University of Constanta reinforced the project’s role in advancing a science-based Blue Strategy that balances environmental protection with sustainable economic development in the Black Sea basin.
