Upcoming webinar: Environmental Credits for Seaweed Aquaculture and Marine Perma
We would like to share an upcoming webinar organised as part of the EU4Algae webinar series that may be of interest to the AlgaeHub community.
The session will focus on the concept of environmental credits in relation to seaweed aquaculture and marine permaculture. It will present initial insights from EU4Algae research exploring the potential for developing carbon and nutrient credit schemes linked to seaweed cultivation, and how such mechanisms could support environmental services provided by seaweed farming.
The webinar will also feature expert presentations and an open discussion on the opportunities, challenges, and policy considerations for integrating seaweed aquaculture into environmental credit systems and the broader blue bioeconomy.

This looks like a really interesting topic, especially the idea of linking environmental credits to what algae actually do in the ecosystem. Algae can remove nutrients and improve water quality in a very direct way. The challenge is turning that into something measurable and recognised in a credit system.In the Black Sea, this feels even more relevant. There’s a real need for solutions that reduce nutrient pressure, but without clear frameworks it’s hard to scale or bring in investment.I’m especially curious how the webinar will approach monitoring and validation, since conditions in coastal areas can vary quite a lot.
